Taylor Peak sits at 13,153') guarding the glaciated valley of Loch Vale and the Taylor Glacier. Attached to its Northern flank is the Sharkstooth part of Cathedral Spires, a popular technical climbing area. The ascent to Taylor Peak is over 3,600' in altitude from Glacier Gorge Junction and a climb of over 6.5 miles one way. The trip is up Andrews Glacier. You can also reach Taylor Peak by way of Flattop and Hallett, along the rather flat area west of these peaks.
As so many of the features in the Park, this one was also named by the early settlement's best guide and hotelier, Abner Sprague. One of his visitors, to which he must have taken a liking, was Albert Taylor, President of Kansas State Normal School. He spent the summer of 1895 in Colorado, and when he returned, spoke of the Park endlessly with great praise. His name is also given to the glacier on its southeast face. This glacier is an active glacier. Before the white men, this peak was named "The Bang" by the Arapahos.#
